Peacefully in his ninety-ninth year on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Beloved husband of Sylvia Auerbach and the late Beatrice Tarasofsky. Son of the late Hyman z”l and the late Jennie Altman z”l. Devoted father and father-in-law of Arthur and Barbara, David and Bonnie, and Chuck and Sheryl Altman. Cherished Zadie of Gabe and Katharine, Blair, Jonathan and Anna, Jennie and Meena, Matthew and Alyssa, and Hayli. Proud great-grandfather of William, Jackson, Brooke, and Gabi. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Faye and the late Joe Klein, Blossom and Leon Hochglaube, Eleanor and the late Larry Altman, the late Sydney and the late Marcia Altman; brother-in-law of Elaine and Jerry Tarasofsky. Sam will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by Sylvia’s children Lisa and Jeffrey Greenblatt, Michael Auerbach and their children, Kimberly and Johnathan, Jamie and Andréanne, Liam, Callie, and Eva.

Sam was a consummate sales professional, and spent the bulk of his career, over sixty years, with Cartier Chemical Co. He played defense on his Strathcona High School hockey team, and the skating skills he developed came in handy many decades later, roller-blading along the Lachine Canal. He was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan, past President of the Young Men’s Bowling League, and long-time member of Beth Zion Congregation. In recent years, Sam could be seen almost daily at the Kosher Food Court at the Cavendish Mall, chatting with old and new friends and cracking jokes, ever the old-fashioned salesman!

The family would like to thank Joel Sookdeo, who cared for Sam with much love and respect, as well as Minda, Maria, Renato, Joy, Gloria, Cynthia, and Melissa for their care, kindness, and devotion.

Graveside service on Wednesday, April 23 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beth Zion Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva private. Donations in Sam’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
