1919 – 2024
On the 25th day of July 2024, at the age of one hundred and five, the patriarch of our branch of the Tanny family passed away after a long and productive life.
Phil was the son of the late Rebecca and the late Isaac and the beloved husband of the late Phyllis for over sixty-nine happy years.
He was the much loved and admired father and father-in-law of Larry and Rosalie, Rabbi Chaim, and the late Robert. Cherished grandfather of Jarrod, Cordell and Angela, Miriam and Moishe, Binyamin, Simcha, Joey and Natasha, Rivka and Shmuel, Avrohom, Shira and Avi, Devora and Saadia, Yehuda and Tikva, Shlomo and Rena, and Reuven; proud great-grandfather of Sarah, Max, Alexandra, Leibi, Chani and Isaac, Shloimie, Sury, Zeesha, Emmy, Akiva, Levi, Nolan, Dovid, Daniel, Yosef, Aharon, Merri, Bella, Techilla, Gershon, Theodore, Lev, Eden, Akavya, and Chana, great-great-grandfather of Ayelet and former father-in-law of Pesha.
Dear brother and brother-in-law of the late Sarah and the late Ben Goldberg, the late Harry and the late Celia Tanny, the late Charlie and the late May Tanny, the late Lily and the late Albert Plant, the late Morrie and the late Jean Tanny, the late Sophie and the late Blackie Herman.
Phil will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Phil was not only a highly successful businessman but also a man who devoted countless hours to benevolent associations such as B’nai Brith, where he became president of his lodge, and the Masons, where he achieved the status of Past Master. He was also always ready to lend a helping hand to all his relatives and friends who needed financial or moral support.
A special thanks to caregivers Marlyn, Alma, Mercy, and Racquel for their constant care, affection, and devotion. They helped Grandpa keep going despite (or perhaps because of) his stubbornness. Funeral Service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Sunday, July 28 at 1:00 p.m. Burial at the Beth-El Congregation Section, Eternal Gardens Cemetery, Beaconsfield. Shiva at his home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. daily. Chaim will be sitting more traditional shiva hours at his home.
