Holocaust Survivor
Eva passed away peacefully in her 103rd year, on Erev Yom HaShoah—a day of remembrance that echoes with resilience, just like her life. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Halmi, cherished mother and mother-in-law of Kathy and Harris Caplan, and proud, adoring grandmother of Haley and Dustin, Jillian and Ryan. Eva was the dear sister of the late Norbert (Mike) Rand and Elizabeth (Boszike) Blau. Her bond with Elizabeth was nothing short of extraordinary—a deep sisterhood that carried them through extreme hardship in Poland to the promise of Montreal. Through the holocaust, unimaginable loss, and rebuilding, they looked out for one another with unwavering devotion. Adored aunt (second mother) of Tom, Steven, Linda, Cliff and their families. To her cousins and friends—whether close by or oceans away—she was a light and a constant reminder of strength. Eva’s legacy is one of extraordinary courage, perseverance, and love. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, whose warmth and dedication made Grandma’s final years comfortable and filled with care.
