Dear Nat and Sheila, Rhonda and Michael, and of course, Ronnie and all the Agensky/Yarin family, Lawrence and I are very sad at the loss of Sylvia. She was a lady, beautiful inside and out and so capable. I got to know both Sylvia and Ronnie well through Beth Zion, they participated with gusto in all their undertakings and always gave me the best advice. We wish all of you no further sorrow and may the memories you have live in each and every one of you every day. Ronnie, we cannot imagine you without Sylvia by your side, however, she'll be with you all the time. She will be missed and she was admired by so many. Sincerely, Caryl and Lawrence Young

So many beautiful expressions of love towards Sylvia have already been expressed, all true, all well deserved. When she asked me to take care of purchasing the "snacks" for the Weekly Bridge that she ran so well at Beth Zion, Sylvia "The Teacher" gave me the following orders/instructions. The "Four W's". 1. What to buy. 2. When to buy. 3. Where to buy. 4 What to pay. She was ever so careful about spending Synagogue money!. She is already dearly missed by our family. May her memory be for a blessing. Baruch Dayan HaEmet.

Dearest Rhonda, Michael and family, It is with the heaviest of hearts that I send my condolences to you all today re: the passing of your beloved mother, sister, aunt, and cousin. the incandescent and ever soul enriching Sylvia (aka “Syl”) who never failed to put a smile on the face of anyone lucky enough to cross her path. I had the good fortune of spending some time with her throughout the years, and , as a close friend of Rhonda's, was a firsthand recipient of her signature warmth, kindness, humour and generosity. On one occasion in particular, I even had the pleasure of “road tripping “with Sylvia and Ronnie on a drive back from visiting Rhonda in Toronto. Not surprisingly, serious snacking and many a good laugh peppered the spirited voyage and I have to say I was rather sad to part ways when they dropped me at my door. The Yarins always made everyone feel like family . Just the way they roll. While the world publicly mourns the formidable Queen Elizabeth this week, another queen of many of our hearts was also put to rest today. So much love and strength to all during this very sad and challenging time.

Dear Ronnie, Rhonda and Michael, My most heartfelt sympathies on the passing of your beloved wife and mom. Having first met Sylvia at the Beth Zion, it was not long after we forged a beautiful authentic friendship that I will always cherish and be grateful for. As a member and volunteer at the Beth Zion, she was an integral part and in many aspects the reason for so many of the BZ successes, from bridge to the Sisterhood events, to the cantorial concerts and the day to day office duties. As a friend, she was loyal , kind, compassionate and a joy to be around. I will miss her phone calls, her "never mind about me", tell me about you", conversations. I will miss her tenacious, infectious, determined spirit and her brilliant smile. May her memory forever be a blessing.

Dear Rhonda, Michael & Ronnie, I am so sorry for your great loss. As one of my oldest friends, I have a lot of memories hanging out at Rhonda's house. I felt very welcome there, in part because Sylvia (or as we referred to adults back in the day, Mrs. Yarin) always greeted me with a huge smile, you could feel her warmth. I loved going over there. The fact that Cheese Dorito's were a staple at the Yarin household didn't hurt either. Your mom was one of the good ones, you were lucky to have her in your life. She will be forever missed but never forgotten. Melanie & Richard

To Sylvia's family: My most sincere condolences on the untimely loss of your beautiful mother, sister(in law), aunt, great aunt & family member. I first met Sylvia at Bancroft Elementary School at age 9 & we saw one another sporadically through the years. We reconnected at the Beth Zion when Sylvia hosted many discussion evenings & sold tickets for the annual memorial concert for Rabbi Shoham. I could never refuse her. She was so sweet & sincerely wanted to do her best for the shul. What a lovely person! I called Mount Sinai a few times just to let her know that I was thinking about her. I was glad to speak to her children & even to her on a few occasions. May the family be comforted as the mourners of Zion & Jerusalem & suffer no more sorrows. Fondly, Toby

To the Yarin and Agensky families- my deepest condolences go out to you. I knew Sylvia through Monday night bridge at the Beth Zion. Sylvia and Linda Schmaltz ran a very tight ship - and Monday nights were our favourite bridge venue. Sy’via was always busy before the game started arranging the cookies trays and making the snack table attractive. Sylvia would invariably poke gentle fun of my partner, Billy Reim and me for our reckless, cowboy style of bidding - but always with lots of affection. She was a sweetheart and everyone loved her - and she will be sorely missed by us all. May her memory be a blessing to those who knew her and loved her.

Dear Ronnie, Rhonda, Michael and entire Yarin/Agensky family, Sylvia's passing has left a huge void in so many lives. What a loving, compassionate lady with whom I shared a cherished friendship and fond memories. Always a charming smile and kind words for others. Despite her rough battle which she fought so bravely, she never complained. Thankfully, she was blessed with a most caring and supportive family and group of friends, who were her rock. She will be sorely missed. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Dear Ronnie, Rhonda and Michael, We are so sorry for your loss. Your mom was such a special, warm and lovely person who both my parents absolutely adored. When Robert and I think of her we think of someone who was always smiling and always had a kind word. Our families go way back and we have such fond memories of Sylvia from our younger days in CSL, our wedding and our girls bat mitzvahs. Sending you love and strength and our deepest sympathies. xo
