It is with profound sadness that the Shefner family announces the untimely passing of their beloved matriarch, Susan Shefner, on Wednesday, January 29th. A remarkable woman taken far too soon. Devoted wife of Barry for 46 years. Much-loved and dedicated mother and mother-in-law to David and Dana, Johanna and Brian, and Mark and Tiffany. Cherished Bubby to Jack, Max, Leo, Justin, Ethan, Lauren, Aiden, and Miles. Loving daughter of the late Sheila and the late Morty Bell. Caring sister and sister-in-law to Richard Bell and Naomi Faraj, Judith and Bruce Shuckett, and Ariela and Laurence Braun. She will be deeply missed by her cherished cousins, extended family and dear friends.
Susan was larger than life—a force of nature whose warmth, generosity, joie de vivre, and tell-it-like-it-is nature left a lasting impact on those who knew her. She was an accomplished businesswoman, building successful careers in fashion, real estate, and art. An epic hostess, her home was always open to guests and she was renowned for her legendary sweet tables, and, of course, her unforgettable squares.
Susan shared a beautiful partnership and love story with her husband, Barry, built on devotion, laughter, and adventure. She was deeply committed to her children and grandchildren, and she embraced her children-in-law as her own. Her loyalty knew no bounds, extending to her friends and large extended family, whom she cherished.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Linda Yacan and Evelyn Factor for their dedication and kindness. Special thanks to her devoted team of doctors for their unwavering care.
