It It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that the family of Girma Zenebe announces his passing on Wednesday, February 5, 2025
Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Yeshi Yimer z"l and Zenebe Kidanemariam z"l and raised by his beloved uncle Tadesse Yimer z"l and aunt Hitiye Nigatua z"l, Girma will be remembered as a devoted father, loving husband, loyal friend, and dutiful brother.
A hard worker, he dedicated twenty five years serving his country, Ethiopia, in military and civil service. He used his position in government to help his Jewish family members secure the proper paperwork to enter Israel. His commitment to helping those in need was further fulfilled by spending twenty five years of his life in Canada caring for others as an orderly at the Jewish General Hospital and caregiver to the sick and elderly. As Chairman of the Ethiopian Jewish community of Montreal, he continued to support his family and friends as they settled in their new lives in Canada.
Girma lived his life grounded in faith and with a strong belief in G-d's will. He was gentle, kind, humble and approached life with no regrets and a deep gratitude for all that was afforded to him.
He leaves behind his children Bruck, Hailu, Eyerusalem, Abiy, and Eden and his wife of forty nine years Mulu Zeleke. He is reunited with his mother, father, uncle, aunt, beloved brother Eskinder Zenebe z"l, brother in law Baruch Tegegne z"l sister in law Birke Zeleke z:l, and dear friend Nega Ayele z"l.
We would like to thank all his family and friends in Canada, the US, Israel, and Ethiopia who visited, prayed, and loved Girma during his cancer battle. A sincere gratitude is also extended to the K7, ICU, and ER staff at the Jewish General Hospital and those at CLSC Renee Casin. We would also like to give thanks to all his fellow orderlies who cared for him with dignity and respect in his most vulnerable moments.
