In Loving Memory of Edward "Ed" Kubersky
February 25, 1947 – January 18, 2025
Edward "Ed" Kubersky, 77, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at home in Aventura, Florida. Ed is survived by his beloved wife Malka, sons Seth (Genevieve Bernard) and Lee (Robin Naples), and grandchildren Serafina and Emmett. Brother-in-law of Edna and Mark Z”L Mendelson, and Sigal Kraindels. Uncle and great-uncle of Omer, Noam, Woochul and Aaron. Preceded by his parents Sonia and Max, and by his brother Arthur Michael.
Born in Brooklyn, Ed dedicated his life to exploring the mysteries of the natural world. He graduated with a BS in Biology from Brooklyn College in 1967 and later earned his PhD in Zoology from Indiana University in 1973. He spent decades teaching countless college students as a Professor of Biology. He finished his career as the Dean of Arts and Sciences at Felician College in New Jersey. Ed shared his deep appreciation for nature with his students and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of learning from him.
Ed found his greatest joy in life with his beloved wife Malka. Together they traveled the world, explored new cultures, savored breathtaking landscapes, created countless cherished memories and danced together wherever their travels took them. Their bond was a testament to love and partnership, an inspiring journey of mutual respect, laughter, and unwavering support.
Ed was a loving and devoted father to his two sons, Seth and Lee, and was blessed with grandchildren with whom he shared his love of fishing and art. Every weekend in the summer and second weekend in the winter he would drive eight hours from New Jersey to Montreal to be with Malka’s parents, the “three schvesters” and family.
Their cottage in the Laurentians was Ed’s piece of heaven, where he could often be found caring for the garden, fishing, and trailing Malka in the canoe while she swam across the lake. This was his sanctuary and where he combined his years of research into lake quality with his love of nature. He loved sitting out on his deck, pipe in hand, looking at the peaceful lake in front of him and naming all of the birds visiting his bird feeder.
Later in life he took up watercolor painting, decorating the house with his beautiful creations. Ed always gravitated toward the water, and no matter where he lived – New Jersey, Florida, or Quebec - he reveled in taking his guests out on his boat for an adventure on the water.
Ed's legacy lives on in his family, his students, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness, intellect, and passion for the world around him,Ed will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
