Dear Soroka family,I was sad to learn of the late Abe Soroka, I used to see Abe in shull on Shabbat, much more so prior to COVID. He was a very pleasant and capable individual. David, being a member of the Cote St Luc Mens’ Club , of which Abe was an involved and proud member . He did indeed make a difference , trying to arrange ways for some shut ins to be at meetings prior to the on Zoom meetings! It was a pleasure to call Abe a friend, he was always there for me and anytime he called on me it was my pleasure when possible to help him. We shared a love for sports and talked a lot about it . Dear Liz, Charles, Dana and family, I was so very sorry to hear of “Mr. Soroka’s” passing (as to me he will always be Mr. Soroka from my youth). I can fondly recall spending many, many a day as a kid at 5703 Brookside, and always getting a friendly smile and warm hello whenever I’d see him. That warm, friendly demeanor of course continued throughout the years when I’d say hello and chat with him in Shul when I was in town for the High Holidays. I also thought of him every year (and will continue to do so going forward), as I believe he shared the same birth date in November as my later father. Although I only met Abe (and Liz) one time, I was touched by their warmth and peaceful nature. I am very touched by the beautiful eulogy’s given by Sam on behalf of the grandchildren, and especially how active and attentive Abe was to Ben, and to echo the Rabbi’ acknowledgment of the power of Abe’s son Charles’ eulogy, it was a beautiful mixture of touching memories and heartfelt candor. The Rabbi’s imagery of the tree was particularly poignant. The entire service was simply beautiful, a true testament to the power and significance of Abe’s life.
