Dear Ellie, Cheryl, Alan, Gail, Julie - and all three generations of the extended Godel family: The sudden passing of Marilyn has left a community reeling. So many of her friends and acquaintances have captured the essence of an elegant Marilyn. They described her beauty, her smile, her vivacity, her skills, love for her family and how, with her warm, sparkling personality she would light up a room. Marilyn became my cousin through marriage. She was also my neighbour; however, it was her generosity of spirit that made me dub her “my HAT lady!” Marilyn owned a wide array of hats - many different styles and colours. I owned none. Whenever I needed a hat for synagogue, I would call her in the morning and tell her the colour of my outfit. En route to the Bar or Bat Mitzvah, I would stop by her house, survey a group of HATS she had placed on her bed and select the most appropriate one to wear. After the morning service, I would drop off the hat at Marilyn’s house, give her a hug and continue on home. That became our personal chuckle!! Marilyn and I lost touch after I moved to Toronto but my memory of her remarkable attributes remain as vivid now as they did then. So many of her friends and beautiful family were blessed to have had Marilyn as their inspirational role model. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

Oh, how I miss all of you! I so wanted to be there today. I have such fond memories of biking over to 10 Minden Road on my 3 speed banana bike. The mostly loving and approving attention you sisters shared for Alan remains with me today. I suspect that you all learned it from your Mom. Marilyn always lit up any room she was in. I mostly remember her in the kitchen preparing a snack or a meal when I was over. She would ask how I was and how my family was doing. I also remember how she would sometimes chasten us for our childish antics but always with a loving smile poorly hidden. Mrs. G. you will be missed but also remembered fondly by all of us who knew you. Sarit and I would like to share our heartfelt love and condolences with Ellie, Cheryl, Alan & Lisa + the boys, Gail and Julie as well as the rest of the family. Dear Godel family… this is almost impossible to process. Yesterday I would have heard her joyful voice saying hi beautiful friend what time shall we play today? I was fortunate enough to go to Bermuda with Marilyn for a special birthday with her as my partner, to have countless birthday dinners,All this was great but it was her joy and pride in her family that imprinted me the most. I have seen more pictures of her children grandchildren, great grandchildren than all my friends combined. She had such a huge capacity for love and everything good. I will miss her terribly but luckily the memories of her are so sweet that I can only think of her with a smile and a life full of love and kindness.

Dear Cheryl, Elliot and family, I am extremely shocked and saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Marilyn. Over the last year, I have got the pleasure to form a really nice relationship with her. It wasn’t long ago when she welcomed myself and my dog Kobe into her home, who apparently was the first dog that was ever allowed into her house! Marilyn was an extremely warm and welcoming individual, who truly left a mark on me, and I will miss her periodic phone calls. She will be missed. My sincerest condolences, Derek

Geri Shaw - 14 days ago

When someone is as vibrant as Marilyn, it's so difficult to absorb that she's gone. I was lucky enough to be one of Marilyn's early bridge students. Her goal in teaching was to pass on her passion for playing bridge to all of us. We had such fun at our lessons, which always included her delicious treats. If you weren't already her friend before you walked in, you certainly were when you left. I can still hear her voice encouraging us "Nobody out there is better than you!" I adored her. Marilyn was honest and real, beautiful, positive. Her pride in her family was uppermost. I will miss her terribly. My heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.

Marilyn was one special lady. I was part of the first bridge group she taught in her house She loved teaching and because of her enthusiasm we all came to love bridge too We waited for the arrival of her first grandchild with her eating the special treats she made She was so excited every time the phone rang. Her enthusiasm for life and everything she did was contagious She taught Avner bridge also years later and made sure to come over to me at the bridge club to tell me how well he did. When we were talking one day I told her my 9 year old daughter was very shy With that smile of hers and her positive attitude she said to me I can fix that. And she did. She put her in her drama class and I was astounded to see her up on the stage reciting a poem with a loud clear voice. She loved helping people and seeing them succeed. She was always a pleasure to be with. We will all miss her. Please accept our deepest condolences. Marilyn and Avner Cobrin.
