Peacefully, in Toronto, on Monday, October 21, 2024, in his ninety-seventh year. Devoted husband of the late Ann Portman. Beloved father and father-in-law of Michael Mendy Slodovnick, Lela and Moshe Fishkin, Srulie Slodovnick, Raemona Slodovnick, Avi Slodovnick and Debbie Siemiatycki. Cherished zayde, great-zayde, and uncle, and cousin.

Born in 1928 in Drohiczyn, Poland to Yisroel Yaakov and Perle (née Resnick) Slodovnick. Sam grew up in Montreal and was thrust into a position of family responsibility at a young age – a challenge he met fully. In 1949, he married Ann Portman, and together they raised five children, providing for them in every sense. He was a model of responsibility and of filial and family duty. Sam met life's many challenges with strength and intelligence. This space is too brief to capture his good heart and contributions. The last several years were difficult physically, but he negotiated them with the same resilience that he negotiated his whole life. A devoted Jew, a pillar, and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and cousin. Sam will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. Graveside service on Tuesday, October 22 at 2:30 p.m. at the Beth Ora Congregation Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O.
