My father, Max Hassan, passed away after several long and courageous health battles; after having lived a full, meaningful, and humble life of hard work and service towards others, supported with the passage over many years, sadly by an increasingly small but close number of surviving family members and very good friends, on January 17th, 2025.
Beloved and loving husband of Perany Hassan, née Moise, z"l. Wonderful father of Howard. Devoted son-in-law of Mendel Moise z"l" and Tilly Pollack z"l. Dear brother of Hassia Tamir and the late Peleg Tamir, Johnny and the late Ina Hazan, the late Menachem and his wife Esti Hassan, and predeceased by his late siblings and their spouses Moishe, Pnina and her late husband Menny, Tirtza and her late husband Yosef Maayan, Ruby, Rebecca and her late husband Chaim. He was a kind person and a mensch who treated others with respect.
My father's family of 12 children and his parents made Aliya in 1935 from Nova Scotia in order to escape discrimination and build a safer community in Israel. And he came back to Montreal in 1958 and started anew from next to nothing to build a new life and future with his wife.
Special thanks to the wonderful doctors and staff of Sacré Coeur Hospital, especially Dr. Guy Goudreau; the Verdun Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital, Catherine Boothe and the Jewish General Hospital for their kind and attentive care.
Graveside service on Monday, January 20th, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Hebrew Sick Benefit Association Cemetery, de la Savane. Shiva strictly private. In lieu of flowers, any contributions in Max's memory may be made to Canadian Magen David Adom. (514) 731-4400 or click here.
