Dr. Herbert Leonard Goldberg

Dr. Goldberg, (Len) our beloved trailblazer, passed away peacefully at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable achievements, unwavering commitment to family and community, and a life lived with purpose and passion.

Born in 1928 in Montreal to parents Irene and Moe Goldberg, Len's life was defined by his pioneering spirit and his commitment to breaking barriers. He became the first Jewish alderman in the Town of Mount Royal, where his leadership and vision profoundly influenced the community. A respected oral surgeon, Dr. Goldberg combined his clinical expertise with a deep dedication to public health, compassionate care, and in addition to his practice, he devoted himself to teaching in multiple dentistry faculties.

Beyond his contributions to health and governance, Dr. Goldberg was a private pilot, embodying the same adventurous spirit that drove him in every other aspect of his life. Len was a life long learner and received his MBA and Masters in Public Health at age 62. He was an innovator, a perfectionist, a role model, and a steadfast advocate for honest government and community betterment.

Dr. Goldberg will be remembered for his incredible sense of humour, his passion for high tech gadgets, his tenacity, and the indelible impact he had on his family, friends, and the many communities he served in Montreal, Saskatoon, Stratford, North Bay and Toronto. His memory is cherished by his devoted wife Janet Goldberg; his siblings, Lila and Arthur Bronstein, Norman and Trina Goldberg, his children, Jill and Joel Reitman, Howard Goldberg and Eliza Parkinson, Lynn and George Heidgerken; grandchildren, Sam Reitman and Stefanie Frangos, Richard Reitman, Michelle and Jeremy Kingsley, Josh Fichman-Goldberg, Rodger Heidgerken, Jonah Buksbaum, Norah Buksbaum; great grandchildren, Eliot and Gavi Reitman, and Cooper Kingsley; his nieces, nephews and all who were fortunate to know him.

Near his end of life, Len received excellent, compassionate care at Toronto Mount Sinai and Hennick Bridgepoint Hospitals. Should you wish, donations made to either of these institutions would honour Leonard's enduring legacy.
