Caryl Gold Young - about 13 hours ago

Dear Peter, Sharon, Gary, Geoffrey, and all the extended family, grandchildren and great grandchildren, we were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Lucille. She was a positive, kind, loving wife, Mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a positive Lady and always greeted everyone with a warm smile and engaging conversation. Growing up with the Norman girls, I got to know Lucille and always admired her. Lawrence and my children are so sorry for yet another huge loss in the Gates family. We wish you NO further sorrow and may her memory be a blessing to the entire family. She will live on in all of you every day and your children and grandchildren. With sincere heartfelt condolences, Caryl

Peter, Gary, & Geoffrey I was very saddened to hear of Lucille’s passing. She was a wonderful woman as you well know, and I feel I was very fortunate to have known her. Our families’ relationship goes back many decades and she was always a bright light in your and our lives. I remember traveling with her in Asia and somehow she always made a long trip better with her good nature and cheerful spirit. I wish you and your entire family my deepest condolences, and I know you will cherish your special memories of her forever. Henry

Judy Bercuvitz - 4 days ago

I want to add to what Mark wrote to you, Peter. Lucille and I were very aware of our connection as Americans. Once I had a Thanksgiving dinner for couples that had to have at least one of them American, and I invited the two of you. I remember some years ago after Lucille had her stroke we talked about how she was feeling and she was having troubles with her fingers. Then Covid hit and we completely lost touch, which is such a shame. We were very fond of Lucille and are sorry for your loss. Love, Judy

Lucille was one of my favorite people! She always had a smile on her face. I loved finding the "newest treasures" with her at the flea market in the Desert. I will forever be grateful for her wonderful friendship with my mom. She will be missed not only by us, but everyone who knew her. Please accept my deepest sympathies. Thinking of you all. With love, Pamela xxx

Dear Peter, Judy and I want to extend our condolences on Lucille's passing. In addition to our frequent meetings at bridge we often talk about a warm memory together with a smile. We were with you in Saratoga and there was a Memorial Day parade. We went to watch it and Lucille and Judy both being sentimental Americans were brought to tears. So along with tears we must smile with good memories. Warmly, Mark

Max Gates - 7 days ago

My grandmother, Lucy Gates, was truly a one-of-a-kind woman. She had a charming personality, a spirited energy, and appreciated the simple things in life, like enjoying lunch with loved ones or playing bridge with her friends. My fondest memories growing up were celebrating holidays with my grandparents, but particularly New Years Eve. My granny Lucy and grandpa Peter would spend the winters in Palm Springs and it was always such a fun and relaxing time. We’d watch movies together, explore the city, meet their friends, and just truly enjoy each other’s company. It was the perfect way to “unplug” from the fast pace of life and truly appreciate our family. Over the last few years I would call my granny in the mornings on the way to work since I lived 3 hours behind them. I can still hear her gleefully answering the phone with “Hello, Darling!” Our conversations were the perfect way to start the mornings. I loved hearing about what she was doing and also sharing life updates. From when I was a child until our most recent phone conversations, she was always so inquisitive and wanted to offer any help and advice she could. She genuinely cared so much and was so invested in all of her loved ones' lives. Every call would end with us saying “Love you to pieces.” Those are the words I’ll hear when I think of my granny Lucy. I will always love you to pieces.

To my late granny, I will miss your phone calls when we always talked about life, from times we visited you in Palm Desert and Montreal, and the other way, when you visited us in Vancouver, and to the times, you would always treat me and Sadie to anything at Toys R Us...you made amazing memories. I cannot believe you have left this plain of existence for something beyond our known knowledge, I want to personally say....Thank you. Thank you for being there for many special occasions, especially during our first year of Sadie's soccer team at our opening ceremonies...that was memorable. Granny, thank you for being there for 30 years of my life and I will treasure them forever, your descendants and beyond will never forget what you did, especially to our extended family. Thank you, and I will "always love you to pieces". I will miss you.

Even when you spent the winters in warmer climates you were both loved by your many new found friends. My memories are vast, lunch and bridge at Elmridge for over 30 years. Fun bridge lessons at Bonavista, the amazing trip to Deauville and the great conversations we had over the years were some of my favorite moments. To you Peter, how she adored you, and you had each other for such a long time, but never enough. A couple that will be remembered by many as being so solid, genuine and true. Our paths have crossed with the Gates' many times during the earlier years but its only during the last two years at Place Kensington that we came to know Lucille for what she was. She would walk into a room and immediately be invited into the conversation. In fact the room would light up . Her time at Kensington was much too short. , We lost a star. So sad. What a terrible loss for us all.
