To the Bedzow family: We want to express our condolences on the loss of your father Charlie. We had the opportunity to share a number of dinners together with your parents in Montreal and in Florida and the life lessons we learned from them are unmatched. The heroism of your father with the Bielski brothers to the story of your mother and the hidden Sefer Torah are just some of the stories we remember. We loved the way your father spoke Yiddish to his best friends and the love both your parents had for Yiddish songs. They were a couple in love each and every day. Charles was a man of grace and character. We wish your family strength and nechama to continue your father’s legacy. Lisa and Chaim Steinmetz

I never had the priviledge of meeting Charles Bedzow, but do remember seeing his name associated with many worthwhile charitable organizations over many years and have heard the name mentioned in a business sense, as my late father Jack Rudick was the founder and president of Western Exterminating and I am certain that Charles did not allow his properties to be infected with vermin Reading the obituary has allowed me to have a better understanding......Kol HaKavod...........what an honor it is for Montreal to have given them permission to immigrate to our city ........and they did our city proud.

Losing a loved one is always difficult regardless of their age. A rabbi explained that it is like a candle going out in a dark room…whether blown out or simply burned out, the room is left in darkness. So it is with the loss of a parent. Our hearts and thoughts are with you and our hopes that wonderful memories make the loss a little easier.

Stuart and Pearl Freedman - 23 days ago
Dear Fran and Howard, Michael and Caryn, and Esther and Allan and families. I was fortunate to meet Charles in 1978 and lucky enough to enjoy his and Sara’s friendship for so many years. I was always in awe of his fighting spirit to create. Charles and the Pacific organization were valued clients of mine and our business relationship lasted until I retired some ten years ago. We kept in touch and met both in Montreal and Florida for lunches and dinners. Charles was a dreamer, a visionary, and one of the smartest real estate investors I have had the pleasure of working with. His background and history is evident in his obituary and I believe the obstacles he faced throughout his early years taught him to be resilient and to take chances. Pearl and I especially remember the occasion when he was honored in New York by the International Partisan’s Association and were moved when he and Sara stood up and sang the partisans song along with so many other survivors and partisans. Sara was by his side throughout almost every decision and their love for each other was so evident every time Pearl and I sat down to eat with them. Please accept our most heartfelt condolences.

Rabbi Allan Nadler - 23 days ago
Dear Michael and Bedzow family, I am sorry to hear of your remarkable father's passing. I have many fond memories of your father from our youth in Montreal. I recall my own father, Joseph (Yosel) Nadler, z"l telling my brother Berl and me about the "hero, Mr. Bedzow who fought the Germans in the woods". Only many years later, would I learn about the partisans of Poland and Lithuania, and about the particular heroism of the woman and me of the "Bielski Brigade." Charles Bedzow of course went on to become one of the pillars of the Montreal philanthropic community. His life was such a blessing to so many, and may all of your memories of him be a blessing as well. Allan Nadler

Dear Fran, Howard, Michael, Esther and the entire Bedzow family. Condolences on Charles passing. It is so hard to believe that fifty years passed since I first met Charlie as as his companies auditor and then as his employee as Controller and eventually CFO of Pacific. It was always a pleasure to see him and be with him and Benny. He was an extremely generous man, even inviting my family to use the Bedsow family apartment on Collins Avenue. In later years, I would bump into him on Hampstead Road near the tennis courts. I would stop and have a short chat with him while he was out for a walk. He was always happy to see and greet me, remembering our association of working together. Charles lived a long succesful life and achieved so much as noted in the Obituary. May your wonderful memories help console you at this sad time and may Charles now rest in peace. BDE
