Mark and Arlene Potashner - 11 days ago

Dear Norman Peggy and families. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Louise. As you know our parents were best friends for so many years and I have great memories of times in the Laurentians family simchas and of course blueberry picking and the resultant scrumptious pies. The karma of my dad and your mom’s funerals being on the same day is not lost on us. May your memories of her be a blessing and provide you with some comfort at this difficult time.

Dear Norman, Peggy and Family. I was saddened to hear about the passing of Louise. Louise was my mother Shirley's best friend for decades. My parents Bert and Shirley and Louise and Manny were members of club anonymous in Montreal and then part of a close friend group for years. I always thought Louse was truly my aunt. We still make her famous blueberry pie every year. I hope you can be comforted by the happy memories. Just to let you know my father Bert passed away 3 days after Louise there are only 2 members of the group still alive. Please accept my deepest condonlences.

Dear Peg. My heart goes out to you; I so wish I could be there for you and Mez and Jake. I feel as though I've known your Mom my whole life, but of course I've only really gotten to know her through you. It's likely that many of the things I love and admire about you came from her - your zest for life, your loyalty, your stick-to-it-iveness, your passion, your sense of right and wrong, of fairness, your love of words... I can't help but think that she saw these parts of herself in you and was proud. You are so lucky to have had such a strong, amazing woman for a mother. Stu and I send our deepest condolences to you and your family.

Dear Norman and Peggy and families, I was so sad to read of the death of your mother. It truly marks the end of an era. How fondly I remember all the times I spent at your homes - both in the city and country - so many years ago. Our parents even cut a hole in the bushes so that your dear late sister Sharon and I could go back and forth to each other’s houses without having to go around the whole block. Your parents were such an important part of my formative years. I remember so well going to your dad’s store to visit the monkey. And how much fun we had playing childhood games up at the cottage. Your mom seemed indefatigable and was always busy with one activity or another. Although I haven’t seen her for a couple of years I can picture quite vividly her smile, her energetic walk and how interested she was in so many different things. In the difficult days that lie ahead, may her memory be a blessing and may you find some comfort in the knowledge that she lived a long and engaging life. She was a force to be reckoned with and leaves a wonderful legacy for all her children and grandchildren and the entire extended family. Yehi zichra baruch.

I'll always remember your mom from our time at Petit Lac Long, especially our moms playing Scrabble on the tiny beach while we played in the water and picking blueberries at the creek. I had not seen her in some time, but I can still see her brilliant smile and hear her infectious laugh as clearly as if I was sitting at the table in your cottage kitchen doing crafts while she baked another blueberry pie. Thanks Aunty Louise.

For many years Louise was a neighbour in Petit Lac Long, where I spent my summers with Peggy and Norman, playing outside and in their house on "Hallas' Point'. She was a fine woman, welcoming, always with warm freshly baked blueberry this and blueberry that - all cooked in a real wood oven. She was almost one of the gang. It's sad to see the older generation leave us physically but our wonderful memories will always be with us. Condolences to the family

Dear Peggy, I was so sorry to learn of your mother’s passing. I have fond memories of her from time spent at your house, both on Melling and in Petit Lac Long, back in our high school days. My deeply sympathy to you and Norman and your families.

Dr. Renee J Karp - 18 days ago

Dear Peggy and the entire family of Louise Hoffmann, As a neighbor on Melling , I am so saddened to hear of Louise's passing. She was an inspirational woman-so full of life, so determined, so energetic. She always reminded me of the energizer bunny as she would do her power walks on the street, stopping to chat about the cats, about any and all things. She was a bright, intelligent and real person-a real trooper who never complained about anything. Even during the snow storm or when that tree fell on her house (and I would insist on her coming in for hot coffee etc.) she took everything in stride. She was so proud of you, Peggy, and as you had been my son's teacher at Bialik (Leonard Friedman) I knew that her pride in you and your achievements were definitely warranted. She will be truly missed and most lovingly remembered. Renee Karp and Ed Katz
