How do you say in words how broken you feel, it still hasn’t sunk in that she is gone yet a piece of me is missing. We use to laugh everytime I would introduce her to someone I would say this is my babysitter Janice….. I have know the Cohen family since I was 4. And as yrs passed by and age doesn’t matter anymore we became good friends. Janice you will be missed by everyone but you will always be a part of my Jew crew…. From me and my dad… and Toby too 🥲

Claire and the knitting group : We all loved Janice, her "enthousiasme " , her marvelous smile, her joy. She left too soon, too fast. I wanted to finish with her a sweater she did not finish because she needed help to follow the pattern. We will miss her but next Wednesday, at the first class of Fall, and in memory of her, we shall knit a scarf. It was a pattern she gave me telling that it was much simpler than the one I offered.... may she be in a place rich in peace and light Claire the knitter

Janice was our next door neighbour for many years. When my son was 5, she took him on a big train adventure... they caught the train at Mo West and went downtown and back. It was a big day for a small boy, and a great example of what a lovely, open soul Janice was. Our deepest condolences to her family.

I knew Janice through the international knitting group and was always grateful for her kindness, warmth and generous support. She extended that support privately, as we emailed each other to discuss patterns, stitches and the world around us. She will be dearly missed by each of us, as surely as that room-brightening smile will be missed by her family and friends. Heartfelt condolences to all of you.

To the Cohen family, Our deepest sympathy on the sudden loss of wonderful Jan. Our relationship began over 30 years ago when Jan was my son's pre-school teacher. She coined the nickname Snugglebum for him! She spent several summers up north with my family and quickly became one of us. We remained in contact over the years for major life events, including just a few weeks ago when my mother died. Jan was kind, thoughtful, loving and how she loved to laugh. She will be missed. Dear Cohen Family, I was stunned like everyone else to learn of Janice's sudden passing. I led the children's story time for many years so I was always in and out of the office and had many opportunities to chit chat with Janice. On many occasions I would give her a ride home which gave us more time to talk. Janice always greeted me with a warm smile and inquired about my family. She was great at finding me a book or two when I was in need or couldn't find where something ought to be shelved. When life went to Zoom, I too was in a knitting group with Janice and from time to time we would chat on What's App or call each other with regards to dropping off what we had made. Janice was a gem, a true mensch, always a kind word. The world is a little less bright without her. May her memory always be a blessing to those whose hearts she touched, and bring comfort to the family and her good friend Jennifer. Selina Eisenberg

I knew Janice for the last 2 years, on Zoom with 2 knitting groups, a Fabric Painting group and other classes we would both show up in on-line....Janice always had a smile and her laughter was amazing. Watching her grow as a knitting was amazing. We shared patterns, and message or email each other if we had a problem....Those "Socks" I finished mine and she was first person I told. I will miss you my knitting friend ....

I knew Janice through the online international knitting group I run. She was one of the original members along with her friend Jennifer. She was always kind and gentle and her speciality was knitting baby clothes, or toys and a very long panelled throw. She always participated on the WhatsApp group too. We even met on Christmas Day on zoom, so it was a huge shock to hear of her passing. It seemed fast, so for that I am glad, as I wouldn’t have wanted Janice to suffer, but for the people left a huge shock, and she will be missed. She also did painting on fabric classes and showed us her work. She always enjoyed what she was doing. So rest in peace dear Janice. Keep knitting in heaven.

Having worked with and socialized with Janice both inside and outside the JPL, it's her kindness and generosity of spirit -- not to mention, a wicked sense of humor -- that comes immediately to mind, even on such a tragic occasion. My deepest sympathy to all who mourn Janice. I only knew her on zoom knitting group and her gentle, kind, generous spirit was obvious even on a screen - what a privilege it must have been to know her personally. It was such a joy to admire her many projects - almost always being gifted. Her friend Jennifer , regularly on zoom with her, must be heartbroken - their obvious affection and care for each other was a joy to witness. “May her memory be a blessing” Carmel, Dublin, Ireland

I met Janice over a year and a half ago in an international Zoom knitting group. We all share a love for knitting and a desire to be with welcoming, like-minded people. What stands out about Janice was her smile just as she appeared on Zoom. It was the widest, sincere, and warmest greeting that I always came to expect. It gladdened my heart. Without ever having met in person, I came to know her a bit and looked forward to seeing her each week. She was a calming, soothing presence. I’ve read the messages thus far and found that this was a recurring testament on her personality in nearly all the mentions of her; that she projected it across a computer screen is a powerful statement on the generosity of her spirit. I am shocked by the suddenness of her passing and hope that she didn’t suffer. To her family and friends I offer my condolences and hope that everyone’s recollections of how she touched their lives brings you a small measure of comfort as well as pride. --Jayne Trentanove, Baltimore, MD USA
