Dear Ellen, David and family, Today we lost a tremendous person, whom I have known for over 30 years. Stanley worked at Canadian Button and I worked at Golden Brand Clothing and to say we hit it off is an understatement. You just had to love Stanley, he was so loyal and honest and most of all the funniest guy you can ever meet. Nobody delivered a joke like Stan. We spoke 50 times a week for almost 20 years and all we did was laugh, he was just the nicest guy you can ever meet. As the years went on we continued to call each other once a month, but the feeling I had was how much I enjoyed talking to Stanley every time I got off the phone. Even though Stanley was not well, he always wanted to know how you were doing and never complained about his situation. Stanley was a MENSCH in every sense of the word. He will be missed. Condolences to the entire family. May he rest in peace.

Shari Black - 26 days ago

Uncle Stanley was my outstanding uncle and friend, or friend and uncle – I’m not sure which goes first. I love how everyone loves him. That mold that they talk about – Uncle Stanley’s mold was for sure broken after him. I love how no matter what you asked of him, he always said “Sure!” I love how his whole face laughed when he laughed, and how he brought his ‘enthusiasm-for-life’ attitude into every room. He was positive and jovial, helpful and encouraging. All those things, every single day. He was as humble as the day is long, and never really understood how favored he was by so many, or why. He had not a single air about him. He wrote the book on easy-going. What a pure and wonderful legacy. Truly one of the most special people. He loved good music and was such a talented singer, musician, and performer, and I’m so thankful that we have lots of footage of him on stage leading orchestras in song at parties, getting everyone on their feet. We shared a common passion for music and all my life, he shared his vast knowledge about all aspects of songs; the composers, lyricists, and arrangers too. He often took me skating as a kid, and taught me how to fly a kite at Beaver Lake. For my 10th birthday, he brought me to a record store downtown. I remember being excited about it for weeks prior. I chose Elvis but he added other artists he said I’d love, and I did, and I still do; Steve and Eydie, Sammy, and Barbra. He recorded a single, which I still have, when I was very young, and I remember thinking he must have been a movie star. He was funny like no other and had us all in stitches at every single gathering. Young and old gravitated to Uncle Stanley. His accents, his voices, his sound effects, his magic tricks. You never minded hearing his jokes more than once because you knew you’d be in for a belly laugh each time. He was someone who made you realize that people can be kind and respectful and gentle and wonderful, even when they have their own problems or pain, because you saw him do it with your own eyes! I love him with all my heart. We grieve but he suffers no more, and is reunited with his most cherished daughter and beloved parents. What a great loss to everyone he leaves behind, and what a life supremely well-lived. To quote from his favorite song, ‘Here’s to Life’: “So here's to life, and every joy it brings. Here's to life, for dreamers and their dreams. May all your storms be weathered, and all that's good get better. Here's to life. Here's to love. Here's to you”. Uncle Stanley, here’s to YOU.
