To Arlene, Jess, Michelle, Ronnie, and the entire family, I have to admit that I was a bit taken aback when I first met Leatrice (Nanny). Why? Well, she was the most stylish, sophisticated, intelligent, and engaging grandma I had ever met in my life. From the first minute we exchanged words, Nanny exuded a magnetic quality and I immediately knew I was in the presence of a truly special human being. Over the course of the six years with Jess prior to our marriage, I was lucky to spend quality time with Nanny and learn about her incredible life. I'm rarely awestruck but Nanny's story as a librarian turned interior designer and savvy businesswoman was an inspirational story. Every single minute I got to spend with Nanny I was grateful. To this day, I think about her mental fortitude and quick wit. She was and is one of a kind. Nanny welcomed me with open arms into the family and gave me the nod of approval to marry her wonderful daughter. When Jess and I first discussed the wedding, I wanted to consider a destination wedding. However, the thought of Nanny being unable to attend for any reason quickly shifted my initial thoughts. We simply could not be married without this wonderful woman in attendance. We had to have Nanny with us. In June of this year, Nanny showed up in New York City as the most stylish guest and I couldn't be happier that my friends and family had the opportunity to spend time with her. She watched us say our vows and we shared a special moment that will never be forgotten. I am filled with gratitude for the time I spent with Nanny at her Florida home, at the Polo Club, at the Monkey Bar, in NYC, and hearing about her trips around the world while sitting in her condo in Montreal. Nanny will always be in my thoughts and life as if she was my Nanny. I thank her for all that she gave me during our brief time together. She left an indelible mark on my life. Family, Leatrice Berger was not only an Aunt, but over the years became my friend. As a kid the distance from CT to Montreal made it impossible to see our extended family often. As we grew into adults, and had our own children, we became a tighter awesome clan. And let me say damn awesome!!!!!!
