Dear Berman and Cohen Family, I am sending you all my deep sympathies at this sad time. I loved Edie very much — Ralph, too, of course — and would often call her when I was in Montréal visiting my dad Gene, or she’d swing by my dad’s apt. with some smoked meat sandwiches for lunch. Edie always called me “sweetie pie” in that very distinctive voice of hers which I will always remember. I’ve known Edie virtually my whole life. What a wonderful, beautiful and warm person she was. Brett and Patrick, I am so truly sorry for your loss. With love, Diana Riesman

Edie exemplified strength, class, wisdom, kindness, thoughtfulness, curiosity, elegance, compassion, humor…to name just a few words of her extraordinary existence. Anyone that was fortunate to meet her stood next to a woman that was a rare gift to the world. Edie was a mentor to me, a kindred spirit, a mother, sister, true friend. She walked through life with such grace, even during her health challenges. Edie’s spirit and positive mark on earth is so profound that all that know her will always feel her presence, even though she is not physically with us. Thank you Edie for all of the years we shared. I feel, along with all that know you, blessed to have had the opportunity to hug you, laugh with you, talk with you, be with you. There will not be a day that goes by that you are not with me, and I with you. You are a part of my heart, Edie. Eternal love, and until we meet again in peace, Vanessa

Dear Berman Family, My deepest condolences. Edythe holds a special place in my heart, as my mother started her career sharing an office with Edythe at Royal Lepage. As an annoying teenager, I would come in the office like a bull in a china shop and Edythe always had so much patience with me. She was always smiling, something I later learned was not that common among realtors. Edythe is now at peace with her beloved Ralph. Jill

Dearest Edie, The words have been written, the portrait drawn and the hearts ache. We were going to write it all down as a memory for the two of us to share. Time just ran away. But we do have the pictures, from the shared age of 3 to 87. We just didn't have the time. We shared the smiles, the sad times, the fun times. We travelled the road together. I seek for a word to describe you and our friendship. Unique comes to mind. You indeed were unique. Smart, beautiful, a business person who influenced me with your determination to succeed right after graduation from McGill. French classes that worked for us sometimes. Rough seas on a shaky ship travelling across the Atlantic, surviving by singing our way through the storm, as we did in life. Your beautiful family that you loved so much will miss you and their memories of you will sustain them. You will always be a part of me and there you will stay. Love, Twinkle

Dear Brett, Patrick, Joanne and Douglas, We were saddened to hear of the passing of our dear cousin and true friend Edythe. She was an elegant, graceful and a wonderful lady. And a Lady she really was! We spent so many wonderful times with Edythe and Ralph. They visited us in Boston, Stowe and skiing in Vail. Thankfully we just spoke to her while she was in the hospital. Dear friends and family members of Edythe My sister Mimi and Edythe were fast and devoted friends since they were 6 or 7. I was the pesky brat of a younger brother of Mimi who constantly annoyed the two “older women”. Over time ,however, Edythe and then Ralph and my wife Jojo became lifelong friends. Moreover during the last almost 30 years we were neighbours, our kitchen windows overlooking their garage and so spying on their daily comings and goings was an easy task indeed. It goes without saying the love and affection we had for each other. Edythe was just a lovely, determined and graceful person with an engaging and wry sense of humour (she was also quite a skier as I learned trying to follow her over the moguls in the Vail Basin). Edythe would never forgive me however, if on her passing I did not signal two persons who so contributed to her safety, health and comfort during the last 10 years or so when she had to confront so many difficult health issues. Cecile who not only kept her house in sparkling clean condition but also attended to Edythe’s care driving her when she had the time to appointments etc. A true marvellous friend. There is then Avi whom all of Edythe’s friends know. For over 10 difficult years for Edythe she became Edythe’s either devoted sister or daughter always ready to take Edythe to a medical appointment or to drive her to the ER at the JGH. And constantly available to bring her food, and the necessities of life including those most important necessities love, compassion and comfort which she so needed. Avi all of Edythe’s friends and family were so blessed by your presence. We are all so grateful to you. With heartfelt condolences to all Brahm Gelfand
