Sorry to hear about the passing of Sam, my sincerest condolences to the family. My father (Walter Fischer) and Sam were longtime friends and were the "partners in crime" who skied as long as they could in Europe. My wife (Marian) and I joined them for several of their final trips before they "hung-up" their skis, and thoroughly enjoyed our time together - skiing and dining together in Austria and France.

I just heard that Sam has passed away and I want to express my sincere condolences to the family. Now I haven’t seen Sam since we graduated and our paths seldom crossed during our final two years of study, he majored in Horticulture and I in Animal Husbandry. But I was his lab partner in second year so we spent hours together every week. Sam was a great guy and a very good friend and I felt compelled to tell you how I feel. I am obviously not alone in how I feel as it’s stricking from reading through several of the condolences how many people in his deep past have resurfaced to say a final thank you Sam, great memories.

To Barbara and Robert and families, my sympathies to all. Sam was a very nice man.
Russell Smith - 12 days ago
Sam and I were non-resident classmates during our undergrad years at Macdonald College where we met habitually for lunch in the coffee shop under the men's residence. We haven't met since 1956, our graduation year. Nevertheless I remember him well as as serious conversationalist. He was studying horticulture, and I was in animal nutrition and biochemistry, so we talked about other things — politics, religion, whatever. I extend my condolences to his family (whom I never met) and congratulate them on sharing the life of a responsible and life-loving companion.
Mitchell Brownstein - 12 days ago
Sam was my bus captain for many years at the Cote Saint Luc ski school and took such good care of us all. During the big storm of the 1970s all traffic stopped on the highway back from skiing and we were stuck overnight. Sam led the way through hills of snow to a nearby church basement where all the kids slept safely on mats and were fed cheese sandwiches at midnight and Kentucky fried chicken for breakfast. It was an adventure I will always remember. Sam made us all feel safe and cared for. The Cote Saint Luc Ski Club was one of my favorite places to be with friends and warm caring leadership. The lessons I learned both in skiing and kindness I pass on to my children. He will be dearly missed.

Teddy, Barbara & Ronnie Our condolences to you and your families. One of the last times I saw him, when he was around 80, I asked him how he was doing. He told he how his knees weren't as good and that he might have to give up his downhill skiing. Can't help smile when I think of that! Amazing how your dad was so active for almost his entire life. Embrace the memories :)

Dear Ron, Barbara, Teddy and extended family, As the Sports Coordinator for the City of Côte Saint-Luc Parks and Recreation from 1980 on I worked closely with Sam Wigdor. Knowing administration of sports but nothing of skiing Sam mentored me every step of the way and even talked me in to try skiing. He had been one of the founding members of the CSL Ski Club & School. I was hooked after spending my entire first day on the slopes of Orford with Sam. I had the pleasure through the years of enjoying many ski weekends with Sam, Loretta Anisef and Walter Fisher who were travelling companions on all their adventures in the Alps. He was a person of such principal, integrity and generous in passing on his knowledge & love of skiing to me. Your family can be proud to have had such a patriarch. May you all be spared further sorrow. Louise Ferland Pinsky

To the entire Wigdor Family and Lyse, my deepest condolences on your loss, mes plus sincères condoléances. I had the honour of speaking with Sam for many hours when he came to the cemetery office on a daily basis. Aside from the normal business talk, we also talked about religion and politics, as well as the knowledge base we both shared, horticulture and botany. I got to know Sam pretty well, and in a sense, he represented a father figure for me. Although we didn’t always agree on everything, I had a deep trust in his intelligence, integrity, wit and insight. Despite his sometimes gruff exterior, I softened to his interior being and he to me. The most important point that I want to share is that he was very proud of his family. You brought him a lot of joy. And to Sam: Welcome back to the cemetery my friend. I look forward to chatting and sharing a strong espresso together.

Dear Wigdor family and Lysenko Permit me to express my personal condolences to the family on the passing of your dad, zayde and very close friend I was shocked to hear of Sam’s sudden passing ,when Ron called to inform me.But I wasn’t surprised Over the years we became very close friends, celebrating Pesach and Rosh Hashanah for many years and wishing each other a good Shabbos every Friday We spoke nearly every day and sometimes more than once Sam was a pure and true iconoclast. I loved him for that.He was independent and did not seek your endorsement, but if you sought his friendship, accept him as he was. He loved his family, and spoke with great pride of he entire family, but had a special place for his grandchildren. I loved him as he was and was richly rewarded with great conversation covering medicine, politics, flora and fauna, history friendships that he cherished ,his ski trips and of course family. I shall miss our ,brief but telling conversations Sam enjoy the flowers and breath the pure oxygen

I enjoyed the times I spent with Sam who headed the Cote St. Luc Ski School. At meetings, he measured carefully what was said and by whom relating to the issues faced by the School and provided his opinions which almost always were agreed upon. I will remember his dry sense of humour, his very smooth style of skiing, and his firm intent to make the Ski School a success.
