Dear Sylvia, Family life may have changed, but I carry fond memories of Rita, from my childhood, visiting you on Park Avenue. Years later, we would meet at the hospital, where she was a busy volunteer. We always had time to chat, and Rita had an everlasting warm smile. May her memory be a blessing, and may you be spared further sorrow. Love, Dorothy (Herscovitch) Waxman

With Rita’s passing, a relationship that began over fifty years ago when a group of high school students ascended the rear steps at the Beth Hillel synagogue under the tutelage of her brother Barney, comes to a crossroad. We became “Barney’s boys” and embarked on adventures that would include a weekly Shabbos minyan, acts of charity and goodwill, and camaraderie. We frequently met at the headquarters on Clanranald before venturing forth where Rita would cheerfully greet us. She would express interest in how were doing at school and our lives in general. Though some of us moved away from Montreal, we maintained our relationship with Rita and Barney as the years passed with a visit here and there, a simcha to share and sometimes just a phone call. Rita and I exchanged recipes and new mystery writers. When I needed a cooking tip from the classic Jewish cookbook, Rita supplied it. When I visited from out of town, she was my companion for Smoked Meat and French Fries. Through the years we became an extended family. We were not only “Barney’s boys” but “Rita’s boys” as well. Dearest Family My deepest sympathy on your enormous loss . The family captured Rita exceptionally . I met Rita in the Endo dept where I worked and where Rita was a volunteer . We connected immediately and stayed friends until we both retired . Rita was a dedicated and caring volunteer highly praised by the entire staff . She worked with determination and diligence, and was appreciated and so well respected . Rita always spoke about her extended family with love and devition . You were her life as she was yours . Her family was her pillar of strength . I might add that when Rita walked into Endo she entered as totality , always so elegantly dressed and coiffed something that will remain in my mind . May dear Rita Rest In Peace knowing she was so loved , admired , and respected by so many . Rita will be missed by all those who were fortunate to have known her . May pleasant memories sustain you . I will always continue to look up to her home when I pass by . I will feel Rita’s presence and smile . Very very sincerely , Suzanne
